WHO IS BEHIND SALON BO?
The Owner & Hairstylist, Monique.
How did you choose the name?
To you BO is a short cute name for Bowen and for me it’s also a time reminiscent of my past when I lived in Canada. It now feels as if my two lives are aligning into where I'm meant to be... here in this seaside town Bowen, which I call home.
What's your worst habit?
I never finish whatever I’m drinking and may leave a few too many cups around.
Your favourite song and why?
Rotates week to week and currently I'm loving heatbeat by Ziggy Alberts. However Beyonce will always have my heart and Hilltop Hoods never disappoints.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Hot chips. I worked in hospitality for too long. If you know, you know!
What's your coffee order?
If anyone’s asking, long black with a dash of milk, please.
favorite Quote?
When you're living your truth, competition doesn't exist.
What is your favourite look?
I love complete hair transformations, something about just owning that decision and going ahead with it! (biggest cheerleader for changes and experiences! change is great! Scary, exciting but it's so gooooooood) Also I can't go past dreamy blondes and blunt bobs.
GET TO KNOW ME
I grew up in the small country town, Dalby! (12 hrs south west of Bowen) Far from the sea, surrounded by farming communities. Because of these roots, supporting local (or Australian) is so important to me when it comes to businesses.
At the age of 16, I left school to start my hairdressing career. I was so fortunate to be mentored by a group of very talented women. They taught me all the tricks of the trade, which has shaped me into the stylist I am today! Hard to believe that was a whole 9 years ago!
Fast forward to almost 5 years into my career, life was great. But there was a desire to grow and explore and I knew I had a lot of living to do. So I jumped on a boeing 787 to Canada. This is where I made myself a home for next 2 years. I put down the scissors for a short 9 months, when I Au Paired for a family of 2 little girls before another little sister was welcomed into their world. By this point, hairdressing was sneaking its' way back into my life! It was Christmas 2016, I was in the middle of my first ever snow storm, driving on the complete other of side of the road, and on my way to an interview at a hair salon! This was when I landed my place in a Canadian hair salon. I spent the remaining time of my visa hairdressing the Canadian way.
I've now been back in Australia for just over 3 years now. I've spent my summers helping out in the salon, and chasing my itchy feet during the winters down in Mount Hotham, Victoria before making my way to this unspoken oasis. I can't believe you've been keeping this haven to yourselves; Bowen & the Whitsundays! It was an easy decision, it's time to call this place home.
You may have also seen me around town for the past year and half working front of house @ The Grand View Hotel!
So, that's me. I can't wait to get to know you soon.
